pls help - porting problems

hi all,
in need of assistance with rear ported speakers. how far should they be from a perpendicular wall in order to get good bass response?

A couple of feet or so. Exact placement will require experimentation (and perhaps spousal approval). See the article here on speaker placement by Rives Audio, and your speaker's manual if you have it.

Not that much!

"A couple of feet" is a correct answer if you're talking about the bass response. But I think the question was more "how close can I put them" in which case I'd say several times the diameter of the port.
