Wasnt it the early 80's when people went MOSFET crazy?
My options that I am considering:

VSP Labs Transmos 150 watts per channel,,1983
Perraux 2500 B....270 watts per ch...vintage 1983
these two were reviewed by stereo Review then

Sansui BA-2000
Van Alstine 250 Omega III,,,,based on a Hafler 220 (125 watts per side)
Dynaco Stereo 400...20o watts per side.

PS Audio PS 200C...also reviewed by Stereo something...

The pre amp will be a McIntosh C26,,,Rega Planet CDP, and speakers..maybe Signet, Meadowlark, Platinum Audio Duos...not sure yet.

I claim no expertise in the amp selection arena but I have searched as you are and in my opinion, based entirely on experience, you need to add the Yamaha MX-1 or MX-1000 to your list of vintage gear. I have recently upgraded to the MX-1000 amp and Yamaha NS 1000M speakers and an entirely new world of listening pleasure is at my finger tips.
I had a great deal of help with my choice from regulars here in AH and in particular, Yamahaluver, was enormously helpful and knowledgable. My system is KICK A@#, crystal clear and at times more accurate then the source music. Power is outrageous and don't be fooled by those here in AH who downplay the high end yamaha gear. Keep in mind, Harley Davidson makes many fine and expensive machines but none can keep up with a Honda. For my money, Yamaha rules the sound highway.
