After reading many reviews and threads in forums, I have narrowed down on following.

Optoma HD20 projector
Onkyo SR608 receiver

Need advice with speakers.
I went to Best Buy yesterday and listened to some speakers.
Not sure if something is wrong with my ears. I did not like Klipsch speakers. That was the one I was planning to buy based on reviews. I liked Polk speakers. They sounded very very clear to me and I was able to hear individual instruments in song. Then there was Bose. I felt something extra in it. It was really good among all. I did not hear good surround sound effects in Polk. Bose was best sounding among all.

Many people say Bose is not good. Please advice. Whether to go to Bose or Polk?

I noticed many people use combination of different brands of speakers. Why is that?

If you want a knockout home theater, you need to spend more on speakers, sorry to say. But it doesn't have to be right away, so you don't have to break your budget. I would just buy the front two speakers at 500, and get the rest later as money permits. For the front two, I would just get full range tower speakers to start with, so you can have a nice full sound right away. Then later add a center channel, subwoofer, and rear speakers lastly. Some tower speakers you might look at in your budget are the Infinity Primus p362's, which are very highly regarded. BIC Acoustech PL-76's or PL-89's might also be worth your time to investigate. Just two good full range speakers for 500 will sound better than any 5.1 system for the same amount, in my opinion.

Also, if you want to save money on the screen, you can build a very decent one pretty easy. One of the easiest project screens out there is build is using a sheet of wilson art laminate in the designer white or fashion grey, and gluing it onto a frame or backboard of whatever size screen you want. Here and here is a lot of information about it, and there is a lot more out there about it, just do a google search on it.

If you like the sound of Bose and have a low budget i would check out Energy's 5.1 setup. Its one of the best cheap entry level speaker setups my ears have heard.

Oh yeah and bose sucks.

Another option is to look for deals on Craigslist. There are a lot of good deals out there if you know what to look for. I just saw a posting in my city for a full set of PSB Image speakers (5.1) for $450.

Over the past month, I've fleshed out my bedroom system by adding a PSB Image 8C and PSB Apha B1 for about $110.00.

I will be driving to Fry's to test out Energy 5.1 speakers.

Someone is selling "Polk Audio RM7200 Speaker System" for $499. Any thoughts on this?

Went to Fry's, they did not have any Klipsch and they said never heard of Energy 5.1.

As of today, I have two options from my local craigslist.
1) Polk Audio RM7200 5.1 Speaker System for $499
or
2) Polk monitor 70 floor standing speakers (Black) pair for $350 and Polk CS2 around $100.

Thoughts ?

Floor standing

Did you notice that the Bose were positioned on an end cap or some other place AWAY from the other speakers. This is done on purpose to discourage direct comparison. the human ear has no memory. It's very hard for you to hear a speaker and then listen to another and make a determination unless they are switched back and forth A-B. Also never listen to more than two pair at a time, pick one between two and then move on. Again because of the ear's lack of memory thing.
First rule. Floor standing ALWAYS sounds better period. end of discussion.
Sound is just moving air. the more air you move in a given volume of airspace the more air you are likely to affect that touches you and your eardrums.
That said with the exception of actively amplified speakers, speakers are generally passive electronics and a good pair of speakers is going to last a very long time, unless of course you get them from a frat boy.
My suggestion is find a good pair of used speakers made by a SPEAKER company. Since speakers are the most subjective part pf the system, their retail prices rarely matches up with the sum cost of their parts, therefor they have the highest markup in the industry.
In an industry where every manufacturer has to come out with new stuff, its easy enough to get slightly old stuff for a great price, because the same audio nut that is constantly upgrading his stuff, is upgrading his speakers too, even though the technology in speakers changes very slowly. There is only so much you can do to a transducer. Most of the time you are giving it a new suit and putting it back on the rack.
In my humble opinion nothing touches Hybrid Electrostats, namely Martin Logan. If you've never heard any and insist on spending less than a 1000 on speakers, then I suggest you never do...everything else you hear after will just be disappointing. If you have questions or would like help, let me know.

PS-Polks are overpriced overated crap

I wouldn't even rate them as Mid-fi. If you must stay in that price range. look at the Kef IQ series or Paradigm. But still if you can spend $1000-$1200 try and find a good pair of Martin Logan Aeon Is. You won't find a better use of 1 square foot of floor space anywhere.

After exploring many different options, finally I decided to stretch up my budget and get good front and center speakers only. I bought used Definitive Technology BP7002 (two towers) and a CLR2300. Paid total $1100 for these. Not sure if I got a good deal or average deal. I am going to plug these up over the weekend.

It was a good deal

The DefTechs were a good choice. though at some Point I'd upgrade to finding a good used CLR 3000. The center channel is too important and the 2300 is a little light in the ***, when matched up with your towers. I currently use DUAL CLR 3000s with my Martin Logans and though not a perfect voicematch, the Delivery of the center channel with these two is phenominal.

The guy is willing to sell his DefTech supercube 1 for $300. Would I really need one because the two towers already got 12" each and the central got another 8"? My room is 12ftx21ft and has two small windows.

It is SuperCube One.

I think the one that is priced as $1199 on deftech site. I will be mostly watching the movies only. Our house is on corner and we don't have any neighbor immediately next to us near media room.

its a good deal

You need a sub period. It's part of the system. the LFE is as much a part of overall effect as any other speaker. It's just the ".1" because it's sub bass only.
And there are instances where the sub will provide bass for all of the channels at once. Its a good deal..jump on it. The only thing you need to be carefull of is make sure both parts of its amp are in good working order. Def tech separates its active crossover and amps into two different components on their subs. the Amp is actually inside the cabinet. What you see on the back is just the active crossover. It's a good design because if on of them goes down you just replace that part. That said if it ever does go down, and you can't get DefTech to replace it, then my suggestion is run a speaker cable to the driver seal up the cabinet and run a component sub amp at that point.
Now go get it!
