I would look at some of the HTIB packages Audioholics offers. For example:

(1) if you haven't already got the BD player : http://store.audioholics.com/product/2763/66388/audioholics--750-home-theater-package $750

(2) Yamaha AVR and speakers

or

Good Luck!

I dont get how the sound bar can make surround sound. It all comes from the front. Maybe Ill try to get her to peice together a system. She dont need anything big but would maybe like to be able to crank the music sometimes. I have seen some polk monitor 60's cheap. Too many damn options out there. lol

Yes, it does come from the front, but on my old tube TV it is amazing what surround effects are generated with those two speakers. It has to do with signal timing and phase shifting. Granted, it may not work equally at different seating locations.
May want to see if you can try one at a store. I know Radio Shack has one at my store but didn't ask for a demo as I was not interested but may when I get a modern Tv for the family room for casual TV viewing.
