ok so heres the scoop, i have a kenwood kr-v8080 receiver hooked up to 2 old altec lansing 890C Bolero speakers To the front speaker hookups (correctly). I also have an 2 rca jacks going into the cd input which runs into a mini jack to my ipod or my laptop. whenever i turn up the volume to high my receiver shuts itself off only when sound is coming out of my right speaker,(even if the fade is balanced and it is going out both speakers it will shut off)(it will also shutoff if i fade it so sound is only coming out of the right speaker by itself). if i fade it all to my left it wont turn off and i can turn it up as loud as i want. will someone please identify the problem here, help me please? :(

Sounds like a short circuit might causing the amp to go into protection mode. It could be a problem with the right channel on the receiver or the right speaker or the wiring on the right side. Replace the wiring to eliminate this as the cause and switch the speakers. If the problems starts happening on the left side, it is a problem with the speaker. If the problem continues to exist on the right side, your receiver is shot.

Also dont run your laptop or iPod at more than 60% of its max volume. This will ensure that you are not over-driving the pre-amp on the receiver.
