Hello i am new to site
i have been reading up on forums and websites / reviews about speakers and receivers for the past week
everything i find about Rx-v661 are a couple year old posts or some one that has like $1500 speakers
well here is the deal i have a Yamaha Rx-v661 and would like to run 7.1 but i dont think i can do it in my price range of below 500$
i have read the 10 worst thing to do when buying speakers and now have gotten stuck agin i was thinking about the ONKYO SKS-HT540 HOME THEATER SPEAKER SYSTEM
i started off with trying to get my 5 red line cube Bose speakers to work but after reading everything about them they seem to suck
so I'm gonna scratch them and buy a different set
my new living/cinema room is gonna be 18'x18'
so if u guys can please help me out with a couple of ideas on what would be a good decision
i mainly just watch movies and would like a nice surround sound like being at the movies

If you are in an apartment where wall shaking bass will get you into trouble then I'd buy a pair of Infinity Primus P362 towers and a PC350 center. You can do that for $500 and those are the important pieces. Later when you have more money then buy a pair of P162 bookshelves for $200 and leave it at 5.1. Later add a small subwoofer when you have more money.

If you live in a house then you can still go with the above solution and add really good sub later. The other option is a pair of Behringer B2030P bookshelves ($130/pr shipped) and a pair of $150 Dayton subs from parts express. You can always come back and add 2 more pair of Behringers when ou have more money.

I've never heard your C-V speakers but hopefully someone has and can chime in.

Thanks Sholling for the help u gave i am thinking hard about the infinity speakers i am hopen someone may know about my cerwin vegas and can advise on them also
i also just found out that the surround on the yamaha the back speakers are pre amp so that would meen i need a amp to run 7.1?
i was playing around with my system last night cause all i could hear was the cerwin vegas so i disconected them and now i can hear the bose cubes but they sound kinda winey i aint got a sub yet so mayb they would sound ok with a sub i am not sure
but either way i still think im gona buy a differnt set maybe use these for like a bed room set or something

Even if you get the rear channels going you'll find that there is very little use for them. It's pretty rare that you find a video with 7.1 sound.

Bose cubes are fairly useless without their bass module and I would just plan on retiring them. Even if you have the Bose base module I find them harsh sounding.

You'll get more full range response with the CVs than the little Bose cubes even if it's only 2-channel to begin with. The 661 has 7 amp channels on-board so no separate amp required.
