Hello again

I plugged my Cable TV box to the Denon 3805 with a S-Video cable in the DBS or TV Input of the 3805, having the Output to Monitor using Component cables.
I thought that the Denon could do the conversion from s-video signal to component, but my image is black and white. Any idea why ?

Thanks in advance

Regards

Have you gone into the set-up menu and made assignments for your inputs and out puts?

As you may know s-video separates the luminance (Y) from the chrominance (C). The luminance is the brightness information; ie black and white or grayscale. If you are getting a black and white image it would seem that the C part of the signal is being corrupted.

Bad s-video cable? Component cables not seated properly? It could be a problem with the cable box y/c separator or even the denon (doubtful), but try inexpensive cable swap first.

Maybe this is to obvious and you tried it already, but what the heck. Have you read page 41 of the manual for the AVR-3805? It sure sounds like you have not set the video input mode for either of the inputs you have tried. Maybe you have them set on "video" which will always only output a signal from the composite input. Set it to S-video and then the priority becomes S-video, then composite. If its set to "video" it won't shouldn't even be looking for an S-video input signal, so I don't know if that would cause a B&W picture or not.

I had a similar situation with my 3803, however I had no image at all, not a B&W one. So maybe there is a pin missing or bent in your S-video cable.

Do you get a color picture if you try either a composite or component signal out of your cable box into the 3805?

The 3805 can up-convert composite and s-video to component, but you need to make adjustments/settings in 2 menus...both the Component Input menu where you assign which devices are connected to the 3 component inputs and the Video In Mode where you tell the 3805 how you have your A/V devices connected. These two have to jive with eachother in order for your display/source to work correctly. Note: The 3805 will not down-convert sources (component to S-video/composite, S-video to composite). I've got 2 displays, so this can be a real pain in the arse until you get familiar with it.

Check if you haven't bent a pin of your S-Video plug when pluging it in...

Thanks anyway

Thanks a lot, y'all, but nothing worked. I changed the cable, tried to set the TV set on progressive or interlaced, but nothing more than a black and white picture. So no cable thru my 3805. Darn...
