I tend to want to do things right to begin with. Or not do them at all. The 12's are ideally suited with an external amp or higher end receiver. However the Onkyo will do the job to a certain extent. You just wont hear their full potential with the Onkyo.

I kind of jumped the gun earlier so I rephrased what I said. Sometimes words can't express what some is trying to say. I hope this makes sense.
Thank you.

We’re really trying to point you in the right direction here. Only you can decide which path to take. As you move up from the RTi-8 to the 12s, there needs to be better amplification to realize better performance. The one issue I have with the upper two speakers in these Polk lines (10/12, 7/9), is that the crossover to the bass drivers is around 120/5 Hz. If you’re crossing over at 80 Hz to a sub, what’s the point? The other issue is that those drivers below 120/5 Hz are consuming roughly 66%-80% of the power provided, when in reality frequencies below 125 Hz should use about 25% or less.

Personally, I’d buy the 8s and start saving for a good sub upgrade.

Those are some good points you make avrat. Since he likes the 12's so much I hope he gets the matching center. Then when he upgrades to better amplification he will have killer front stage.

Again, guys, the center isn't the problem; I have been told by Polk Support that the CSi30 will be fine with the 12's, and my main issue -- the power needed to drive the 12's -- will be okay, too.

Polk is telling me that the 12's are still an 8 ohm speaker with a 90dB sensitivity, and they can be driven with a mininum of 90 to 100 watts at the low end, which I have.

I will be having the 12's delivered tomorrow, and if they don't work out, I'll swap them out and let everyone know what happens.

Well if they do work out. Which I think they will I still think you should jump on the CSi5 at One Call. Your CSi30 will work fine but you have come so far I would just finish the front stage before the CSi5 center is gone.

Keep in mind the center channel accounts for roughly 70% of the sound from the front and its the one speaker that anchors everything together.

Good luck I hope you like the 12's they are good speaker.

Relax

I drove a 7.1 all Polk tower set-up with a Denon 3805 (120 watts per channel, but less with all channels driven) with absolutely NO clipping, overheating or strain. I had two RTi12's up front, a CSi-5 center, two Rti10's on the side and two RTi8's in the rear. The 3805 never broke a sweat and I listen to music loud. If your Oink starts whining get an outboard amp (lots if deals on Audiogon) to drive your fronts. BTW, in my opinion the RTi8's have a more balanced frequency range than the Rti10's. The 10's seem bottom heavy at the expense of the mid range. I'd go with 4 RTi8's to compliment my RTi12's in I had it to do over again. I now have Def Tech speakers, which to my ears deliver more dynamic detail in the mid to upper ranges than the Polks. But the RTi12's, with proper placement and room treatment, can squeeze all the nuance and detail the music has in it to give. Please let me know how well this has worked for you so far.

Thank you, Anamorphic and everyone else who has contributed to this thread and towards helping me out; I appreciate it.

The RTi12's come today, delivered to the new house, so I'll let everyone know what they look like out of their packaging, and then what they sound like once hooked up to the system, when I get everything unpacked and installed. :)
