Please help With Harman Kardon AVR 147 issue

I just got done helping a friend set up his home theater system today. We have everything hooked up, and it all seems to work ok with one problem - the audio from the receiver, a Harman Kardon AVR147, cuts out every 5-10 seconds for about a second and then comes back on again. This happens with all inputs: DVD, Satellite, and even the internal radio tuner.

I own a Pioneer receiver and am not at all familiar with the HKs. I initially thought there might be a short at one of the speaker posts, but if that happens with my Pioneer, it shuts the entire receiver down, not cut audio out every so often. Until he can call HK for help, I suggested he disconnect and reconnect the speakers one at a time at the receiver to see if that fixes it. If so, maybe it was just a short at the binding post. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this for him?

Thanks!

What speakers are connected?
You may want to disconnect all the speakers, then just connect the two front left and right and see what happens.
What does the manual say about going into protection mode; is there a front panel indicator for it?
If this continues with just two speakers and still with the internal radio, it sounds like a warranty issue, internal problems.

:)Take it back for a cash refund. If it's H/K you're after you can pick 'em up on their eBay refurb site for cheap. If you just want to make this one work try the reset procedure spelled out on the last page of your manual.

The refurb ones come with a full warranty and their customer support is fantastic. Tech support and returns are painless.:)

Would recommend contacting H/K support. Very good support, questions asked via email within hours during normal business times. H/K may also reply with a phone # to further troubleshoot/help.

As said before, try only connecting the fronts and then go on from there.

Post again to let us know the outcome.
