Hi I am new to this forum but I have many threads here to guide me in my descision. By the way knowledge wise I've started from zero and I've been researching my setup for a few months now so please be patient. First my preferences, I watch alot of TV and DVD my wife listens to alot of Jazz and soft rock.
For the living room I am planning to get a Denon AVR-3808, Denon 3930 DVD player, Outlaw LFM-1 12" subwoofer, pair of Definitive technology Mythos one for the fronts, Definitive technology Mythos Eight or nine for center wall mounted - WHICH DO YOU RECCOMMEND?. I already have a pair of in wall speakers for the surround/back but they are with no name very cheap quality placed by the builder, cut out size 13" by 8 3/4" WHAT SHOULD I REPLACE THEM WITH? - I AM AT A LOSS HERE :confused:WHAT WOULD FIT WITH THE MYTHOS ONE FRONT AND CENTER? I would like to spend 200-400dollars on used or new pair

I am also replacing the In ceiling speakers in the patio WHICH WOULD YOU RECCOMMEND? THis is not very high priority as far as quality, not the top but something good. DOES IT HAVE TO BE WATER RESISTANT?

Finally I have a pretty good size bathroom. I want to place a pair of in ceiling speakers - CAN ONE OF THE SPEAKERS BE IN THE SHOWER CEILING? I HAVE NO CLUE OF WHAT KIND OF SPEAKERS WOULD THAT BE _ PLEASE HELP? The second speaker would be in the bathroom itself - I probably need one that I can angle the Tweeter - Again Any reccommendations?

I greatly appreciate any and all help you guys can offer. Thanks

Welcome musta9, to get the ball rolling I'd suggest the Mythos Eight for the center since it uses 5.25" drivers like the Ones.

I would hold off on the surrounds for now until you have the system up and running to evaluate the ones already in place.

I'm not sure why you're considering the Denon DVD-3930, but if you have an HDTV and would like to view Blu-Ray and enjoy the new hi-res audio then perhaps you should consider the Oppo BDP-83 instead. It's a universal player that should take care of most of your A/V needs.

The DT UIW-63/64 in-ceilings are moisture resistant but not marine quality for in-shower usage. Sonance, Boston Acoustics, or SpeakerCraft may have something.

I agree with the rat on your in-walls. Since they don't need to timbre match the fronts, you might find them acceptable. I have regular ceiling speakers in my bathroom with no problems but not directly above the shower. If you plan to do that they should be moisture resistant at the very least.
Sorry I don't have any brand recomendations for you but many of the better speaker companies offer in wall choices.
I also like that Oppo player.
Let us know what you do.

THanks alot for the help. The reason I was looking at the Denon 3930 is that I wanted a player that can play audio DVD and SACD, I have a playstation 3 to play the blu-Ray. Do you guys think that the Denon 3930 is worth it in that regard.

I don't know if this is the right place for it but I was also thinking of getting a TIVO HD series 3 to replace my current TIVO (not HD) - is that worth it or should I just use the DVR supplied by the cable company?

Thanks again :)

Is the 3930 worth it? Probably not. Don't misunderstand me, I'm a Denon fan but since you're interested in DVD-A/SACD there's no reason to spend that much, unless you have money to burn. I think even the 2930 is a bit much and the 1940 only runs HDMI 1.1 so that's out. You could go with the Oppo 980 which offers excellent audio quality as well.

Not up on DVRs, sorry.

AVrat thanks for your help. I don't mean to keep on asking about the same thing. The more I read about the Oppo you reccommended the more I like it. The Denon 3930 is for about 700 new or 500 refurbished, the oppo bdp-83 is for 500 - given the price is very similar is the oppo still better quality, ease of use, DVD upconversion, audio quality?

Thanks again - I appreciate the help

I'd say they're on par with each other. But, if you take out the BD capability of the Oppo, you'd be looking at a $250 or less price tag.

AVrat thanks again, Since I already have the PS3 would it still make sense for me to get the oppo bdp-83 or should I get the oppo 980 or 983 since it is considerably cheaper? Is that what you meant when you said that without the blu-ray it has a $250 price tag?

Thanks again - I appreciate it

Yes, since you have the PS3 the Oppo 980 is really all you need to play DVD-A/SACD. You would then have the option of which unit to play SD DVDs off of.

For in ceiling pots/cans or outdoor speakers I'd take a look at the Mirage Omniguide technology speakers from API/Klipsch Group before they totally destroy it. Those in ceiling can speakers really impressed the hell outta me on one install. Also the Outdoor surface mount units with the passive radiator were also impressive. They were made outta this insane heavy dudy ABS outer shell.
