Hi All,
I'm looking to replace my Onkyo TX DS-595 w/a receiver with similar features and power. The Onkyo broke after only 2+ years so I'm not sure I want to go w/another Onkyo. I'm looking to spend $350ish. I'll use it to listen mostly to rock and jazz music as well as for movies, but music is most important. I have 4 Paradigm Atoms, a Paradigm CC-170 and HSU STF 3 sub. So far I've checked out specs for the Denon AVR-1804, Denon AVR-905 and Onkyo TX-SR601 (maybe!) Any other recommendations in that price range? Thanks!

I have the older Denon AVR-1803,I use it for Ht 100% of the time.

Never had any problems with it.

Harman Kardon AVR 235. I prefer Harman's warm amp to Denon. I did a quick search and found an authorized dealer www.bhphotovideo.com selling for $336.00. This is a steal as other authorized dealers are selling for $500.00

One more thing...

Harman amps are notorius for giving you more power (watts) than what is listed on spec sheet. You don't find that with Denon.

I have the hk avr 235 paired with paradigm spkrs (5semk3 fronts, cc 170 and atoms rear plus sub) and the sound is sweet. The amp delivers dynamic audio.
Paid $350 at J&R w/ free shipping.
Some cons, it only has one set of main speaker outs, hk recommends using it only in a 5.1 or 7.1 set up, not 6.1. And the remote has a somewhat odd layout and small buttons, but it runs all my gear and has 5 macros.
Overall, I'm very pleased with it.

Without a doubt the Denon 2805. Check any and all reviews. This has become THE receiver to buy as it has a great price point (around $650-$700 street price) and the specs are amazing! Just stay away from the 2105 as it does not allow you to sync your audio and video!

I think you'll be better off with the Pioneer or HK. Yamaha's entry in this price point (some of us do look at the allowed budgets) is the soon-to-be-replaced HTR-5760, which is a good choice for home theater, but will probably bow to the others musically.

Come on Guys, lets read the whole post before spouting off our favorite receiver. This kind of advice happens a lot around here. If he wanted to spend that much he would have stated it in his post.
