Please help me pick

Hi everyone. A couple of weeks ago I posted for some recommendations on speakers on a $700 budget. I was intoduced to the Axiom M22ti and I was hooked. While I was doing some research on the Axioms my income tax came in and that changed my budget. I seen on the Axiom website that they have complete HT packages. I am stuck on which package I should get for my 11X19X8 room. Should I get the Epic Grand Master or the Epic 50? Would the Epic 50 be to much for my size room or should I go with the Epic Grand Master and get a bigger sub?

I'd personally go for the Epic Grand master, but with the VP150 Center and a sub from Hsu, SVS, or Outlaw.

I'd get the grandmaster with the Ep500 sub. i wouldn't buy any Axiom sub except for the EP500 and the EP600. I'd buy an SVS or an HSU instead of any other the "lesser" axiom subs (which aren't nearly as good as either SVS or HSU for the money)

This setup will be for 70% movies and 30% music. But when I listen to music, I listen too it loud which it's most of the times on weekends. Where can I find the HSU, SVS or Outlaw Sub? One more thing. Do the QS8's sound better on stands or hung up on the wall. What I am leaning towards doing is setting up a 7.1 HT.

you can find those subs here:

I actually just bought an SVS. It's on its way now. I had a budget of ~$400...don't know what yours is, but for $400 you can get the Hsu STF-2 or the SVS PB10-ISD. I went with the PB10-ISD...people seem to be raving about it. It was initally backordered due to overwhelming demand. Their supplies are caught up and they're shipping. At the same time, you can't go wrong with the Hsu either.

Axiom Home Theater

I just had a long discussion with a gentleman who has the Axiom M22i speakers and is quite satisfied. However he has the VP150 center channel and has not had good results. I think that it is predictable and would ask that you check out the VP100. Here is why. The VP100 is essentially the M22i on its side with the drivers arranged differently. I own Paradigm Monitor Series speakers in my home theater. The Monitor 5 which is what I have is similar in driver configuration to the M22i and the CC370 (the only Monitor Series center) is similar in driver configuration to the VP100. If my CC370 had one more bass driver and an extra tweeter it would drive me nuts just like it is the gentleman I spent this morning discussing this with. The VP150 is more appropriate for their larger speakers. Yoy will likely get better performance for music from the M22i than any other speaker in Axiom line. Why? Because in the price range that you and I find ourselves shopping in there is no such thing as an inert cabinet, the more cabinet the more cabinet resonance.

I visited the hsu and svs website and the first thing that caught my eyes was the warrenty on the hsu. I did not see that on svs website unless I missed it. Also the SVS PB10-ISD weighs 60lbs and the HSU only weighs 44lbs. Another thing is that SVS is 300 watts as HSU STF-2 is only 200 watts. I'm a newbie to the HT thing but it looks like the SVS is better. Am I right to think that?

Well, it's really hard to call anything better...that's all a matter of opinion/personal taste. The weight difference, I believe, is due to the weight of the driver in the SVS, as well as the cabinet being slightly bigger. And yes, the continuous wattage listed is more for the SVS. But again, all of these things don't necessarily make one better or worse. I researched for about a month before buying mine, not only looking at hsu and svs, but at a rocket ulw10, an adire rava among others. For me, it just seemed like I was getting the most for my money from the SVS.

i wouldn't place too much importance on a subwoofers maximum watts/RMS. Remember that you're only using fractions or just a few watts at any given second, and output requires a tripling of power for a doubling of SPL (or something like that).

OK. So what I'm getting out of this is that it doesn't matter which sub out of the two I get. If thats the case, than I'm going to ask my fiance to just pick the best one she likes out of the two. Would I need an amp for this setup to drive my speakers or the sub?

Comparing to the M50's is no big diffence really, but if you are going to have to buy stands for the 22's you might as well buy the 50's. 60's however would be a big step up to a fuller range tower.

Personally I went with the Energy C9's. By far the most bang for my buck and I was able to audition them locally before buying. From what I have read you will not be disappointed with anything you are looking at. Your headed in the right direction. Good Luck.

The subwoofers in question are both self-powered. You will need a pre-amp & a power amp or a AV receiver for the speakers

I'm going for the 25-31pci. I asked alot of questions and that looks like the best for me. 25Hz@105db and i like the cylinder,it goes into the corner a little tighter then a box. I think its a 3 year warr and a 45 day return.

Don't get too caught up in wattage ratings. It takes doubling watts for every 3dB increase in volume if everything else stays the same. In other words, those amps if on the same sub are only going to be 1.5dB different in volume. Look at cabinet size difference for weight difference. Also make sure one isn't shipping weight while the other is actual weight.

OK. After being away this past weekend and thinking about which package I should get. I have decided to go with the Epic Grand Master 175 with the SVS PB10 ISD sub. I don't know if I mentioned this before but my budget is $1700. That said, I will be putting the M22ti's on brackets instead of stands. I just can't afford the stands right now. Will the sound quality suffer by me placing the speakers on brackets? I don't know how far away from the walls should the speakers be. Will there be enough room in back of the speakers while there mounted on the brackets?
