Hi!

I am very new to all of this and would love it if you guys could help me out. I just bought a Panasonic TH-42PZ85U (42'' 1080p plasma) and now I am trying to figure out what to do about sound.

Since i don't really know anything about setting up a home theater I figured the best thing for me to do would be to just buy everything in a set.

I have some gift cards to a specific store so my only options are:

1) Samsung HT-X715T
5.1-Channel Touch of Color Bluetooth Home Theater System

2) Onkyo HT-S5100B Black
7.1-channel Home Theater System

3) Sony HT-7200DH
5.1-channel Component Home Theater System

4) Yamaha YHT-690BL
5.1 Channel Home Theater in a Box System

5) Klipsch CS-500
2.1 Channel Home Theater System with DVD Player

If you had to choose one of these systems which would you choose?

Thanks a ton!

EDIT: i think I might have came to the wrong place... hopefully you guys can recommend a cheaper system like the ones I am looking at...

Welcome to the forum.

I would choose the Onkyo, but I am an Onkyo fan so take it with a grain of salt. I find they have the only HTIB I would even consider. And that's only if forced. However I must stronly urge you to consider going up the 6100. It is will be very future proof for you because it decodes all the new audio formats and accepts audio via hdmi. Even if it's a little more it is well worth the upgrade.

None of the others seem like a good idea IMO

The Yamaha would be second

Klipsch 3rd

Sony 4th

Samsung last.

Could you tell us the budget and store and we may be able to suggest options for you that would be better than a HTIB

Thanks for the fast reply.

I didn't want to post the store incase you guys thought I was advertising or something but since you asked.... it is onecall.com

I have to spend right around $450 because I ordered a different item awhile ago and they were out of stock so now I am trying to pick something else that is of similar value.

I would rule out all but the Yamaha and Onkyo. On paper, the Onkyo seems to win between the two, but listen to both of them before you decide.

HTIB = Onkyo only. Better than the Yammies I've seen.

FWIW, my unbelievable insanity all started with an Onkyo HTIB. Then I already decided to upgrade after only three months. About another three more months passed to research and audition like a crazy nut, and don't even ask me how much I've spent.

The best thing about the HTIB was it gave me some time to learn before going big. Otherwise, I could've saved $400. YMMV.

Well thanks a lot you guys, i really appreciate you helping me out.

It sounds like the Onkyo wins... I don't really understand the benefits of uprading to the 6100... could someone explain that to me?

The 6100 decodes all HD audio formats like Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio.

For a TV maybe, but for a sound system? You can do way better. Even a 2.0 Infinity Beta setup with a stereo receiver is better than a Samsung HTIB. And it would be significantly cheaper.
