Hello guys... need your help ASAP... i have to have an answer by tomorrow no later...

MY SETUP:
I have a 4 year old YAMAHA HTR (only decodes DD 5.1 and DTS) receiver with newer def tech CLR 2500 center, BP2004 main, no sub and BP2X rears.. I use a xbox (don't laugh) for DVD player.... I want to upgrade my receiver-dvd to really get to use my def tech bipolar speakers to its fullest....

My dilema: I haven't heard either receiver (this is where you all come in).
-I found a place that is selling a YAMAHA Z1 8.1 (refurb) with **no remote** for $850 shipped. The remote will cost me $499 from yamaha.

-or i can get a used denon AVR-4802R 7.1 THX ultra 2 with Denon 2200 DVD for $950 shipped...!!!

Please help me decide... I really want to hear what my speakers can do...

I'm trying to stay below $1500...

I was also thinking of getting a YAMAHA v4600 which sells for $1250 shipped and staying more up to date and buying a nice denon DVD player....

ANYONE.....?????

.....I'd say either one of those two....you'll have a quality DVD player with both those....I don't believe you'd want to be without a remote....or buy one for $500......

Too bad you can't wait for the RX-V2600. HDMI, tons o' features, and in your budget. Maybe the Denon 3806?

My main goal is to get something that sounds great. The reviews i've read about the Z1 really impressed me. I'm having a hard time making a decision because the Z1 is a bit out dated. Do you all feel i can get better or equal sound from a newer non flagship receiver? The fact that it doesn't come with a remote is a big negative. Those remotes run $500... So Z1 would end up costing me ~$1400...

A new Rx-v4600 would run $1300 - $1400 also...

Would a newer denon 3806 be better choice..? i saw some for under $1000

again im trying to get the best quality sound under $1500...

Thanks for your help guys...

As they say, haste makes waste. What is your hurry? slow down and you may not regret it.

Yamaha receivers

If you want HDMI switching, go for the newest Yamaha models (4600 and 1600).

If you are not concerned about this feature then you should consider the 2500 for <$800 and add an external 2 channel or multichannel amp. This configuration will provide more power (and features) then the Z1. It is also nice to have a warantee when you are spending that much money.
