Hi there,

I'm in the process of trying to narrow down speaker selections and am looking for as many opinions as possible before I buy. I'm looking for speakers for a small living room, using it for records and cd's (not home theater) and need to stick around or under $400.

Here's what I'm looking at right now, have no idea which would be better or if there's something better I don't have listed::confused:

Klipsch SF-1
Klipsch synergy quintet III
Paradigm Monitor 3 v4
B&W VM
JBL E80
Polk 50
Axiom M22ti
also in the beginners forum Ascend 170's were recommended.

Any feedback on the above listed or others would be greatly appreciated!!
Oh forgot, also which of these would need an subwoofer too??

Thanks,
Neemypeemy

How many speakers are you looking for the $400? If two, you have a lot of options. I would say that the klipsch sunergy speakers you have listed are not even in the same class as the B&W, axiom, or ascends. The JBL's are towers, the qunitets are tiny sattelites. These are all different types of speakers. Can you listen to any of these before buying? If not, I would listen to the internet only one's first, because of their return policy.

Also, if you are only buying two speakers you need to consider speakers that go pretty low. Either bigger bookshelves or floorstanders. I just bought some phase tech bookshelves, and although they sound phenomenal, they are pretty thin in the low end without a sub.

So let us know how many speakers you are looking for and what you have listened to.

I have a pair of the klipsch quintets. Great little satellites but not enough bass for use as full-range speakers
