I'm VERY new to this home theater thing and have been taking the advice of a friend who has an old system that seems to work very nicely for him. Any way I have purchased Triad gold LCR's and Triad surrounds The problem is they are all 4 ohm. The LCR's have a sensitivity of 92 but the surrounds have a sensitivity of 86. I have recently invested quite a bit of money into a receiver that no longer works because I didn't know it wouldn't push 4 ohms. So seeing that I have descent speakers, I need to know what a descent preamp / receiver would be. Specific model # wouold be best. Also is ther eanybody out there running Triad and what do you use. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

You might want to consider getting separates (preamp/processor amplifier combonation). Do you have a particular budget in mind? What will the system be used for and what sources and display do you have?

Seperates will work I just don't know what tolook for. Money is an object, but don't mind spending if it'll get the restults i'm looking for. It's primarily for home theater, public movie houses make me sick. so I'm trying to experience th movies the best that I can in my house.

NAD recievers are 4 Ohm stable as well I believe.

Receiver options

The Onkyo 805 receiver is THX Ultra certified and should be stable into 4 ohms. If budget allows, an emotiva amp with a less expensive receiver (Yamaha RX-V663) would be a good option.

Before you decide to go with separates, you might want to consider finding a receiver with preamp outputs for all channels. Often, such receivers are less expensive than comparable preamp/processors. You then can use the receiver as a preamp/processor. It might seem odd that you can get "paid" to take power amplifiers that are built into receivers, but this is likely due to mass production; most people buy receivers, so they are made in vast quantities. Most of the decent brands have models with preamp outputs, though many of the low end models do not have this. A cheap power amp that should work with your speakers is:

Depending on how many 4 ohm speakers you have, you may need 2, 3, or even 4 of these for your system, as they are 2 channel amplifiers, so one would be needed for each 2 speakers that are 4 ohms (assuming, of course, that the receiver you select cannot properly handle 4 ohm speakers).

Basically, what you need to look for is amplification that is rated for 4 ohm speakers.

All of these companies make separates, and any of these amps will get the job done in spades.

What receiver do you have now? If it has preouts then all you have to do is get a separate amp of at least 200wpc to fully utilize your speakers & you can keep your current receiver.

If it doesn't, then you can get a matched prepro/amp combo from any of these companies and be done with it all in one shot.

Does your receiver have pre-outs? If so, get three Outlaw mono blocks for $200 a piece, one for left, right, and center channels. Thats where a majority of the sound is coming from. Surround duty is rather light compared to the front 3 speakers.

I was in a similar situation for driving 4ohm mains. I just bought a Behringer A500 amp and then bought a Denon 1907 as a pre/pro. The whole thing came out a little over $300
