Please comment: Yamaha 461 or Onky 505?

Hey guys,

I've narrowed it down to the Yamaha RX-V461 and the Onkyo TX-SR505

I was also looking at the Harman Kardon 146, but at 30w per channel, it won't do the trick.

This will power a 5.0 set of Wharfedale Diamond 9 speakers.

So, just in a word or 2, which one would you take if it was you making the purchase. Much obliged!

Receiver options

Those entry level receivers should be pretty comparable.
You might consider a Yamaha RX-V659. It is "last years model" and doesn't include HDMI, but it will have a more powerful amp and pre-amp outputs for about the same price ($300 new).

Yeah, because of shipping restrictions, it really is between the above receivers. I am leaning towards the onkyo though.

I've been looking at the same/similar models. Call me biased but my old Onkyo TX-SV414PRO made me a believer in the brand.

Right now you can get the 505 refurb from Onkyo online for $179 (sorry I can't post a link yet) but go to onkyousa.com and click the link for shop online. Might help you make the decision solely on price.
