Hi.I want to make a Home Cinema sistem.I have a Panasonic HD 1080p Tv and a ONKYO TX SR605 receiver and I need a blue-ray player.I have to choose from Panasonic DMP-BD10A and SONY Playstation3 as a Blue ray player. One of the differences between the two players is that PS3 doesn't upscale dvd's to HD and Panasonic does.My question is if I have a receiver like ONKIO is there any differences in image quality between the 2 blue-ray players?Thank you

First off when the PS3 was originally released it did not upscale dvds but after recent firmware upgrades it does. So that should make your choice easier in that respect.

Both players will have very similar performance visually and audibly. The real question here is do you think you will use the ps3's other features? By these features I mean gaming, DLNA compatibility (file sharing with your computer, pics, audio video), easy upgrades, SACD compatibility and such.

So if you think you will just be using the players to upscale and play BD then get the Panasonic, but if you will play video games and use/want other features get the PS3.

Both are eligible for the 5 free discs, but Amazon was offering an additional 3 discs free with the PS3 last week; not sure if the deal is still going on.

Blu-ray.

?

What is more important to me is the image and sound differences when playing a blue-ray or dvd disc if there is any perceptable difference.Because I can buy a S PS3 much cheaper(about 300 dollars) from a friend instead of buying a 800 dollars Panasonic Blue-ray player. Can the PS3 decode DTSHD and DOLBY TRUE HD or this have no importance when using a AV Receiver? But if there is a quality difference I want the best player.I am using a ONKYO TX-SR 605 receiver.

As of now the PS3 cannot decode DTS HD but it is a possibility that it will be able to after a firmware update. Both are very good Blu-ray players and you won't notice a difference between them. As long as the player can at least output the information via bitstream you will be okay with the Onkyo 605.

The differences between DVDs and Blu-ray is tremendous IMO with both audio and video so don't worry about that. I have had friends come over not even knowing what HD really is and start asking me why my picture is so clear for example.

Personally, I have a PS3 and am very happy with its BD performance.

Upscaling quality

Could it be a difference in image quality between the 2 players when it comes to normal DVD upscaling to HD?And if I use the PS3 how do I make the connections?HDMI-HDMI between PS3 and receiver and another HDMI-HDMI cable between the Receiver and Plasma TV?:confused:Thanks

Both players will upscale well, but Sony claims they will be increasing upscaling capabilities on the PS3 with firmware updates. To connect either player take an HDMI from the players output to the 605's HDMI input. Then an HDMI from the 605's output to the TVs input. This will carry all video to you display and get audio to your sound system.

Ahh, speaker time. There are some questions that need to be answered first :). What is your budget (speakers and Sub)? What are your listening habits (games/music/movies etc...)? What is you room size? Is it a dedicated room? Do you want a specific type of speaker (bookshelf, floorstanding, inwall etc...)?

Full room dimensions would be nice Length x Width x Height.

Since you are in Europe I would look into Jamo's E700 or E800 series speakers as well as B&W CM series speakers. It is important that you go out and listen to these speakers with music and movies you like to hear how they sound as speakers are very personal. So audition as many as you can.

One other thing you might want to budget for are room treatments as they help sound greatly IMO.

What is a room tratment?
Go here - http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8119

But in all honesty, a treatment could be as little as putting up a painting on a wall, or removing it from a wall.
Adding thick curtains over that back or side window (for reflections) etc...
Adding a surface rug, removing rug. (heck, even hanging a Persian rug on the wall)
Then get into the add a bass trap, remove, etc.... (you get my point)
Room treatment can be remedied/changed with even just arranging the furnishings, is my point.
(remedied, was to strong of a word, I meant changed, which all becomes room acoustics-1o1)

Since your location is Romania, I would be more concerned with the cost (of import fees)
Of getting the PS3 (which I also own one), or another stand alone player (which I as well have).

As far as Blu Ray playback, aversfi is for the most part correct, that the average person WILL NOT see a difference between most players.
Granted there are some differences.

But DVD upscaling, is quite different.
Personally I do not find the PS3 as my best upscaler (actually looks better on some movies with scaling turned OFF - - usually older movies).
However, I have not personally tried the BD10A (I use a BD-P1200, a HD-XA1, and a HD-A2 as well the PS3)

But the added features of the PS3, are well worth the price tag.
If you have a CD collection, you can burn/rip them directly to the PS3.
As well those family photos can be stored on it, etc.... Family videos, etc, etc...
