So my roommate moved out and now I have an extra room in the house. The room is pretty small 14x12x7 with vaulted ceilings so it gets to 14x12x10. I have been looking into the
Mitsubishi HD1000U 720p DLP,
Optoma HD70 720p DLP,
Sanyo PLV-Z4 LCD
I also need to purchase speakers, screen, and a receiver, nothing to big or fancy, but not a htib either. I would like to go for at least a 5.1 system.
My budget is very limited. I would like to stay around
$1000 for the projector
$200 on the screen
$300 on the reciever
$700 on the speakers
$600 on the couch
Any care to give some suggestions on my pipe dream.
Oh yeah i plan to have 1 big couch on the back wall. Maybe one that recliners built in.

Looks like you already have a set-up according to your signature. Is this just a second set-up? If you like what you have why dont you just look into the lower models that fit your price range.

I do like what I have and i have looked into getting some more def tech for my new room. since money is an issue I might have to look else where though. If i was to choose def tech I might go for the Mythos Solo Left/ Center/ Right speaker and the mythos gem for my surrounds. But then i will be spending a ton of more money. My sig is my living room, this room will be a dedicated gaming/movie room. 1 couch maybe a coffee table and thats it. I just wanted to hear some suggestions.

For example do you think my projector selections are good, if not what do you recommend?

Should i go for a 1080p?
any screen suggestions? receiver suggestions? I am leaning towards a yamaha or a pioneer as for which model I have no idea. alternate speaker suggestions? Something fairly inexpensive.
should I have the screen at the small end of the room, where the ceiling is 7ft high?
what size screen should i look into getting? I was thinking of about 100inch, i would be sitting about 12ft from it. I was also thinking of it being a pull down.

These are just feeler questions to see where i can go with this room. I am trying to not get too crazy with it so please keep that in mind.

Chadd, If you're going to have a dedicated HT/Games room, will you be using the lounge setup for movies? If not maybe you could incorporate some of that lounge setup into the dedicated room since you don't really want to spend too much, this way you could put that budget into a 1080p projector and 100" screen.

BTW I sit 12' from a 100" screen and I definitely wouldn't go any smaller:D And for a dedicated room I'd go fixed screen(I did and my room doubles as the lounge;) )

cheers:)

I have no knowledge of PJs so I will leave that up to someone else.

Best bang for the buck on the AUDIO side may be the Yammy 659 and x-ls/x-cs 5.1 system from AV123. <1K for a nice and complete set up may be difficult to beat. Also check the complete set-ups from SVS and check the "b" stock from each company.

thanks

Macca350, I was thinking of switching some of those components out, I just love the way it is right now. Good to know about the 100 inch screen, and even better that you have the same setup:D ! My room will be a lounge too:cool: .

Greg thanks for the advice, I will look into those. I do like yammy's so that will be a shoe in and i have heard good things about av123. Do you know if there is any place that carries those so i can hear them?

Im getting the itch again

Never did set up this room, and every time my wife and her friends are over watching sex and the city, I dream about it.

Help me avoid the fights, and the pain of enduring one more episode of Samantha ending the night with her girlfriends talking crap about guys.

No need to feel stupid, trying to figure all this out can be daunting. Not as many members are projector/screen savvy so more often people need to do their own product research.

At your viewing distance and screen size, a 720 projector would be sufficient. It also fits your budget.

From my research, these seem like most popular options that'll work for you. You can get these with good pricing at Visual Apex.

Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 720
Optoma HD70 720p DLP,
Panasonic PT-AX200U
Sanyo PLV-Z5 LCD

Carada Criterion Brilliant White screen is very popular but you save some with looking for something less expensive. http://www.carada.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=PROJECTION-SCREEN-H100C

Yes, you can have a nice setup for the $2000.
