Playing itunes music on receiver

I would like to play music through my Powerbook G4 to my receiver. To do this, I have an Aiport Express which wirelessly receives music from my computer and then I send the signal from a cord which connects the Aiport Express to my receiver through an Optical Cable. However, it does not work. My receiver will not allow this signal to be processed. Can anyone tell me why this does not work?

Uhm...

Are you using a mini plug to optical Toslink cable, if so, make sure that on your receiver that you tell it to use the optical input for the audio input of your choice (ie. tell it to use the optical when selecting CD)

Hope that helps :D

Ps what receiver do you have?

is there anyway you could go w/ a standard 1/8" --> Stereo RCA. the music is just in stereo so i don't see a need to go digital?

been there done that

I have the Sony STRDA2000ES and i use the mini plug to optical cable..it says "unlock" when i try to plug it in to the cd optical port. it only worked on the video optical input which was really weird. could it be the power rating of the aiport express, and the sony receiver noticing a different power rating then a cd player?

thanks for your help

good idea mega

that is a good idea. is there a cable that changes from a mini plug in to a coaxial cable? perhaps that would work too. I just rather use this cable because I bought it especially for this..but oh well whats another 50 bucks.

This works and you can get the cable from Radio Shack for $6.00. Don't waste your money on the fancy Monster or Belkin ones. I use the same cable to plug my iPod Mini into my DVD player in my van. I also have a Media MVP that plays my MP3's in iTunes throught my HT.

Nothing fancy but it works on my wired home network.

Actually, if you are going from a 1/8-->RCA I WOULD recomend picking up a monster cable. I purchased the cheap 5 dollar one from Best Buy and it sucks. I went back and got the monster one for 25. You dont have to turn the reciever up as much, and the highs and lows seem better (esp the lows)

Just my $.02

I was just going to install a digital coax jack on my wall near my bar. Then I can drop the lappy on the bar when I want to use iTunes to jam. My lappy has the digital out already.

I've always done well with generics. Tried monstor once and the only difference was it loked kewl and the wallet was a little lighter. maybe yours was defective.

but hey, it's his money. If he feels better paying for the name, have at it I say.
