Playing DVDs back in Full Screen

I am trying to get my 16:9 recording to display in full screen on my home theater. I am new to this but here is what I know so far.

First I am recording the DVD onto a Cannon DC210 in widescreen. 16:9.

I am then finalzing the disk, and play on cheap DVD player onto my Sony HDTV. It plays in full screen. No bars across the bottom or top.

I take that same disk, play it on my home theater. Onkyo Receiver, Screen Play projector and Tohsiba dual VCR/DVD player and it plays with the bars across the top and bottom. I have component cables running from the DVD Output jack in the back of the DVD player into the Onkyo.

Then I plug my Cannon DC210 directly into my Onkyo Receiver and it plays in full screen mode. So the issue appears to be with my Toshiba DVD player. Any thoughts? I don't see where I can make any changes to the settings on the DVD player.

I would like to take these Mini-DVD and put them on larger DVDs but want to make sure I can view in full screen first.

thanks

Sounds like letterboxing and if it is getting a 16:9 signal, the Toshiba player is doing the right thing IMO: showing you the whole picture. Does the player have a feature for Letterbox vs "full" or any kind of zoom feature (which will crop off the sides of the picture)?
