Playing DVD-A's through Yamaha RX-Z1 Receiver

Just a quick question about receiver setup when playing DVD-A's through my Yamaha RX-Z1.

I only get sound when I use the "6 channel analog input". Is this correct? I know that Sony prohibited SACD digital signals from being present at the player digital out jacks. Is DVD-Audio the same? Or do I have something set wrong.

The player is a Denon DVD5900.

Thanks.

In essence, yes. The 5900 I believe was capable of digital transfer, but only if both pieces of gear have the same digital connection (Denon link). Not sure about HDMI, but if the Z1 doesn't have HDMI, then your only option would be the multichannel analog connection.

Thanks, I kinda of figured that. Actually, I found a few discs that I get a 2-channel mixdown via the digital outputs. Not exactly what I was looking for.

did they ever get any of the versions of the Denon link certified ? last I heard they were on Rev 3 and it still was just a funny-looking plug-in...
