Playing Blu-rays on PS3

Has anyone else noticed a little bit of static when playing blu-rays on their PS3? I have a 52" Samsung 1080p LCD Television. I have it connected using HDMI directly to the TV. I have used Avia to calibrate my TV perfectly. I still see some static on the picture. Anyone have any suggestions? Is a stand alone blu-ray player better then using the PS3? I want to get the best picture possible.

I have a PS3 with a sony 42 inch 720 p tv. I haven't had any static at all. Do you mean picture static or sound. I'm assuming picture static since you posted iin the tv forums. Check your conection.

Does this static appear for a particular BD movie or for ALL BD movies? Does it appear when you play games, or just movies? What about when you play regular DVDs?

I have no issue with mine. Re-connect everything.

I have my PS 3 hooked up to an LCD TV now, and a RPTV before that. I never noticed any static.

PS3, 46 Samsung LCD, no static problem- I run my HDMI through my receiver and into the TV.

I think you and I are in the same line of thought here. Maybe what you are just seeing is graininess of a particular Blu-ray, it's pretty common and is completely the fault of the software (or more accurately the mastering of the software) but there is nothing you can do to change it.

Would it happen to be 300? The grain is intentional on that one... but if it is ALL movies, then something is wrong.

Thanks guys. That is funny that you mention 300. When I first put that blu-ray in I noticed it and I was like what the heck!! But then I found out that it was part of the movie. BUT there is the same sort of static just not as noticable on all my blu-rays. Sometimes its not noticable and other times on darker scenes it is more noticable. I played Italian Job and Transporter 2 last week and they seemed a bit staticy. I thought it was maybe because they were older films. What do you guys think?

I dont remember seeing anything weird on Transporter 2. Pop it in and give me the scene number and I can check.

Just got a PS3 3 days ago... noise is absolutely KILLING ME. Spiderman 3 -vs- POTC3... you'll see the difference. (great movie by the way (latter)). I have it plugged to my 46" bravia LCD and nothing wrong yet. try the troubleshooting some guys gave you here. is it only in movies? only with the same movie? did you try reconnecting everything/resetting ps3 to its original settings? can you try on another TV set with the same software?

Are you seeing something that looks like sparkles? If so, try to isolate a specific moment where you see them in a specific spot, then rewind and see if you can see them in that spot again.

Some players have issues - it does happen to about 3% of consumer electronics and I have seen this happen very seriously to a HD DVD player, and have heard reports from some Blu-ray players.

Sometimes it's a bad HDMI cable, sometimes it's a bad player.

Sparklies look like white static flashing up on the screen. Grain is a much more obvious and filmlike effect that may be real, or artificial depending on the film.

Sparklikes will also be consistent, regardless of the title you play. Cars (Pixar) is pristine. No grain, no issues at all - damn near flawless, so if you see it there, then odds are good you have sparklies. Try a new HDMI cable (pick up a short one from www.monoprice.com) and try it out.

My PS3 games are flawless, they look amazing. I think I am going to change my HDMI cable and see if it makes a difference. I don't know if they are really white sprinkles. Dang I wish I could show you guys what I see. I don't think taking a picture will show the static. I am going to go pop in a blu-ray right now to see if I can find a scene in Transporters 2. Thanks
