CAn anyone give a good spot to research "plasma proof IR". how it works, how to know if you need one, why does the IR signal get messed up from my remote to my components?

thanks

Plasmas emit a lot of IR which floods your room. This can drown out the receiving capabilities of IR receivers. This can make them 'sketchy' to downright unusable.

So, they came up with plasma proof IR emitters that supposedly don't have that issue - but some seem to have other issues.

Personally - I setup an IR repeater just so I could set my receiver up. It has been working fine so far. Makes me wonder about why I would ever want to switch to plasma proof!

It might be an excellent way to go for less money.

Russound has a really good plasma proof IR. I use them all the time and have had no trouble. One warning though, if you are using IR repeating through you house for distributed audio control or distributed video, Use only the Russound. Weve had some system nightmares combining russound with others.
If you want to try to keep using the IR system you have, you can sometimes use it with plasma if the reciever is behind the front plane of the plasma screen (but not usually). If you need a setup and can't find one PM me and I'll help.

Have a standard Zantech IR recvr and the light glows when my LCD is on but it doesn't effect the performance in my room. I talked to the Zantech rep at CES this year and asked about the Plasma-friendly recvrs and he advised me NOT to buy one yet. They have too many issues with certain remotes, etc. He told me there are new ones coming out this year but he didn't know if the issues would be resolved on the new ones.

lincoln,
Unless something has change Xantech make the IR equipment for Russound. They OEM for almost everyone in IR repeating. I have not experienced any trouble with them on single room installs
