I am purchasing my first real home theater system and would love input on HSU and what people recommend for a budget receiver around $500. I have been looking at Yamaha but not sure of what is highly sought out. I like to see myself as a pretty tech savvy guy but any opinions are welcomed. Thanks

I'm new around here but this is probably better posted in this section: Amps, Pre-Pros & Receivers

If the concern is whether the HSU will plug into a specific AVR, any of them with a Sub out/LFE option will cover your needs. Pretty much any new AVR will have this option (and much MUCH more). You may want to consider the current EQ configuration available to you that covers sub EQ as well. Not sure if you'll find that for $500 but worth looking!

My advice - get an AVR that sounds good with your speakers (left, center, right, surround) rather than what is highly sought out. Make sure it can grow with you as you dive into this audiophile pool...

This one comes to mind for me, Onkyo TX-NR709, has pre-outs if you decide to expand to separates (amps). Good amp section with plenty of features, mine has performed without incident for over a year now. Keep it well ventilated and heat will not be an issue. Some will disagree with this suggestion and many may agree. It has Audyssey MultiEQ XT, second version from the top tier XT32, if you're looking for multiple sub EQ (SUB EQ HT) look to spend a lot more money.
