Planning on getting the Yamaha YSP-1, questions...

After asking for suggestions and reading reviews, I think I'm going to get the Yamaha YSP-1 for our bedroom and living room. I like it because it is all-in-one. No need rear speakers and it looks good.

The first room is our bedroom 14ft x 12ft. Do you think I need a sub for this room? I read that it is better but we are tight on space. Prefer that I don't have one but if necessary I'm willing to get a small one (any recommendations on a compact sub if I need one?)

The second room is the living room / dining room (one big area) is 15 ft x 25 ft. However, based on our setup, there is a right wall (actually windows) about 6 feet away, back wall about 12 ft away, but the left wall is like 20 feet away! So I'm worried about whether the sound will be able to reflect properly. Any thoughts?

For the living / dining room, I'll get a sub. Again any recommendations?

Thanks!

(P.S. I assume that I can connect my DVD, Radio, TV directly into the YSP-1, nothing else is needed?)

I went and listened to the YSP-1 a while back. It is amazing how well it does. However, you *need* a subwoofer. I has virtually no low end. For the bedroom a HSU STF-1 would be good -- and quite compact.

I'm guessing that for the living room it would be tough to set up a YSP-1 for good effect, although some have had luck with very problematic spaces.

New Yamaha models

Yamaha anounced two new models at the CEDIA show, so you might want to check out their features before you buy:

I think the virtual surround effect will work best in a small square room with walls on all sides when coupled with a subwoofer. It sounds like a good solution for the bedroom, but a regular 5.1 or 7.1 setup would probably work much better for the larger family room. If you purchase one of these Yamaha's (for the bedroom) you can always try it in both rooms before buying a second ht system.

Check out subs from SVS and HSU for both rooms.

Thank you for the review!

I'll probably buy one, try it in the living room and if it doesn't work just use it for the bedroom and buy something different for the living room.

Thanks for all the advice.
There's a YSP-1, new, just listed on ebay for a low starting bid of $599.99... worth biddin' on, guys & gals! Go to eBay and search for item #5864415516. Happy bidding!
