So I bought some audio gear, I hope to get it early next week, now the question is where and how shall I place things.

With regards to speaker placement, they will be on the wall. I do think I won't hang them flat on the wall, but a bit off using a wallmount that gives also the option of directing them. Which wallmounts are good for B&W 685?
Also, the left speaker would come above a central heating radiator. How bad is that? There will still be one to one and a half meters in between. If it's very bad I can try to mount them on the ceiling, but which mounts should I use then? Note that the central heating will probably only be on a lot in winter and sporadically during late autumn and early spring.

As to receiver and cd player, I assume separate shelves is better than stacking them one on top of the other, but how essential is it? I will be putting shelves on the wall at a height so that my three year old nephew can't reach them yet, so we have some breathing room for our own eight month old. Also, we might need something to prevent cats from jumping on them, what is a good way to do so?

Then, what kind of shelves? I can simply put some wooden shelves on the wall, but I have no idea what is strong enough. Another option (and the one I'm leaning to) is a kit. In that case there are the bare-bones types, and those with the glass shelves, which will at least look better. But which are good? I can get from Barkan, Lexus, Vogels, and quite a few others.

Although there is some empty wall space, I'll probably move one of two cd cabinets in spite of it being wall mounted, so we can have the receiver and cd player in between the two cd cabinets instead of either high up on the wall, a bit blocking the entrance to the living room, or on the wall behind the couch.

Here are the first five
And here are the last four, for the 2π view.

The three bookcases won't be move, except the one standing between the radiator and the door, which can be moved a bit left or right. The low reed bookcase can also be moved. I'm thinking of moving the left of the two cd cabinets (seen in the last two pictures here and the first in the previous post) a bit to the left, so there is room in between them for shelves for the gear I bought. The bad thing is that they are wall mounted, leaving some holes, but I can fill them.

I'm thinking of putting the left speaker above the radiator (seen in the first picture here), and the right speaker above the door (seen in the second picture here). The bookcase in between is about 80 cm wide.
