I just went in to do my advanced drivers test (here in Alberta you need to do two road tests, the first for your license and the second, longer test a few years later for your ""real"" license which is essentially the same thing plus about three more demerits allowed. Pure government capitalism at its finest).

They made me fork over $115 to schedule this test that I already passed like four years ago.

...and I just got disqualified for having a not working brake light before she even let me pull out of the parking lot.

Here's the thing: I got those exact brake lights replaced only ::TWO:: weeks ago.

Sigh. I probably should have checked if those lights were working, but it seems like something you`d expect to be working if you made sure to replace them only a few weeks ago.

Sucks man, and I know where you are coming from. I was driving up to one of my customers in my car and the steering felt very loose. I took it to the dealer in town and it turned out to be a leaking power steering pump that cost me $700.

I think when I`m older, I`m going to own a place near my job, and bike it work every day.

Owning a car has to be the worst investment one can make, logically thinking.

Ahhhhh, the G road test (Ontario). One of the worst cash grabs of the Canadian government.

The biggest difference between this and the G2 test is that there is highway driving and merging. But yeah, you should have done a walk around before you left your house this morning. A faulty blinker or brake light is an automatic fail. Hell, they will fail you if you don't signal coming out/going into of the parking space.

They do the same thing here. Automatic fail for any safety equipment - head/tail lights, functioning hazard/blinkers, etc... But we only take the test once basically...you have to be retested after so many years, but it isn't $115!

Friend of mine got his US permanent resident status thru marriage. After two years he must apply to remove the temporary status on it.
Filing fee is a bit over $600 ...
