I am running a VSX-D6065.

Lately, I have been running into an issue when I run the volume at a higher than normal, but still acceptable, level.

Apparently the higher volume trips a switch in the receiver, which cuts the sound and then displays a message about "volume cut off" or "over clock" or something. The sound remains off for a short period, then a switch clicks and the sound comes back on (only to trip again if I don't turn it down).

I had an older receiver that broke which would carry volumes on the same set of speakers far past the trip point on this unit.

Is there a way to adjust this setting? Or a reason it would trip so readily?

Thanks for any input.

carefully check the speaker wiring from the terminals at the back of the receiver to the speakers. Use a bright flashlight and look for fine copper strands that may be touching other terminals, the receiver body, or other exposed wiring. Same at the speaker connection. Check the wire run for breaks in the insulation, pet chew marks, breaks, etc.

Your receiver is going into protection mode because something in the output from the amplifier circuits is either shorting out or droping the load impedance too low for the amplifier to operate.
