Hi,

Just recently my receiver volume occasionally jumps up 30dB's by itself. Its rather startling and I'm wondering if its a quick repair or signs of a receiver on its way out. I am hoping it can be repaired inexpensively as I do not wish to purchase a new receiver at this time.

Any feedback or advice from those that have dealt with this issue or have technical 'know how' would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

I have no idea what the problem is. That is an intermittent fault and will be very hard for any service tech to identify. He will have to have his instruments in the right place at the right time to find it. Probably it will require a shot gun replacement of the board that contains the volume control circuit, in the hopes that will cure it.

30 db is a huge increase and puts your speakers at risk.

I'm sorry, but this will probably prove costly with uncertain success.

It is worth doing a receiver reset, if you have not done one already, but I'm not optimistic that will cure your problem.

Check your remote volume control. May be sticking from all that beer you spilled on it! Take the battery out use the dial control see if that works.

Thanks for the feedback! The problem has occurred very infrequently, however, after the last occurrence I did a a reset and will wait and see what happens. I have been sourcing out new receivers but in the meantime will have to keep the volume low so as not to blow my speakers. My neighbors will be pleased :)

Thanks again.

Haha I originally thought it was a remote issue so ensured the remote was never facing the receiver but the problem happened again. So unfortunately its not just a simple remote problem. Of course! That would've been too easy!

Thanks
