I know eventually I will have to purchase a new receiver, but I'm very attached to my Pioneer VSX D1S. Can anyone help me on how to convert the HDMI signal to get the best sound from my receiver?

That was a great receiver for its time. One of my favorites. However it cannot be retrofitted for HDMI. You should use your HDTV for ALL of your HDMI switching. If the Pioneer receiver has multi-channel inputs then get yourself a Blu-ray player with analog multi channel outs such as an Oppo BDP105 and let it do all the surround decoding. Otherwise, it's time to retire your D1S or use it in a separate two-channel room.

Really, I just need a retrofit for a week while moms is in town. I just need some quality sound for the Blue Ray player.
