Pioneer VSX-82TXSi/VSX-84TXSi Problems

I bought two pioneer receivers. My first one in January was a VSX-82TSXi. While playing an XBOX 360 through the component connections, horizontal bars and flicker would form on the top of my SAMSUNG LN-S4695 46 Inch Widescreen LCD TV and work its way down 1/4 of the screen, then back up, continuously. And my Samsung DVD HD960 player would black out for a split second every 10 min, both audio and video. When I called Pioneer support they said it was most likely a bad video processor, so I returned it. They were out of stock so I waited 5 weeks, still not in so I upgraded to a VSX-84TXSi which was in stock. Just finish setup, high-end cables of course, and the exact same problems on this receiver, what are the odds? So I called Magnolia, the store I got it from, I explained that this only happens when the receiver is in the loop, and everything is fine when I plug directly into the TV, they said they haven't heard of this problem and they sell alot of these. They also suggested asking Pioneer support if there was a firmware upgrade, I will do this on Monday. Is anyone else having these problems?

This probably doesn't help much but I just hooked up my TSi84 this weekend and I do not have any similar problems.

i wonder if it could be a "handshaking issue" between your display and the reciever?

New Firmware

So I picked up my receiver from the shop. Took three days because of the back log. Plugged in the receiver and no change, same XBOX horizontal lines and Samsung DVD blank out. I did find that my PS3 played movies fine so It has narrowed down to the 2 components. I will call the service center and see if there is more upgrades, other than firmware. Thanks for the posts!!

How frustrating. I bet it is a handshake issue.

is the faroudja chip disabled? The upconversion setting in the receiver could be causing those problems. I think the default setting is off, but you never know. Also, are you connecting your receiver to TV with HDMI or component cables? I am assuming HDMI, or else why get a receiver that has the feature... I experienced a similar problem with my 82txs and denon dvd player. The bottom half of the screen would flicker upon startup. Restarting the dvd player would solve the problem, and I actually haven't seen the problem in quite awhile. Also, try to route your power cords so they don't interfere with your other cables. I have seen power cords and cables cause problems numerous times.

Also, what resolution do you have your DVD player outputting at? I would try different resolutions, and my flickering problem only happened in 1080p upconversion mode.

HDMI standards

To my knowledge an HDMI 1.4 standard does not exist and HDMI 1.3 chips (hardware) are required for full compatibility with the 1.3 spec.
