Hello,
I replaced my Pioneer VSX-452 that was about 6 yrs old or so.
Reading the reviews here at audioholics I got a Pioneer VSX-815-K.
I like Pioneer. My Dad has one he had while in Vietnam. To this day is sounds great. anyway.

I have bose 901's. [Please no bashing 'em. I have had them since '86 when I bought them while stationed in Okinawa while in the USMC. So please non of the Bose bashing I see whenever the name comes up. I like them and thats all that should matter.]

With the VSX-452 the hook up was thru the tape 2 monitor ports. Worked great. However I don't have that on this 815-K. Playing a cassette works fine but not going thru the Active EQ on CD or anything else. I used the Tape connections on the 815 but guess there are not "looped' (if thats the proper terminology).

Any help (OTHER THAN GET RID OF THE 901'S - they stay the receiver will go back) greatly appreciated.

Mark

It's not that people don't want to comment because you have Bose speakers, it's probably because we don't understand your question. When you say the vsx-452 hookup was thru the tape 2 monitor ports, what are you talking about? It can't be the speaker hookup because that doesn't make sense. In the next sentence you say that playing a CD doesn't go through the Active EQ. Is that what you are asking - how to hookup an EQ and have it active when playing CD?

oh no not that at all. wasn't worried no answers.
Between dozens of google searches, many forum scoured and all and and finally hearing from Pioneer. There is no way other than with a external amp to hook them up properly as I had before.
I could get the spkrs to work great with the tape only but nothing else.
So being that they are 20 yrs old and were built long before the words home theater were put together l I will move them to my other room for hard rockin beer drinkin nites and get some modern made for home theater speakers.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, many of the new systems don't allow for much outboard processing. The 901s require the use of their proprietary active eq.

The upside is that all you really need is a 2-channel amp to go between the Bose eq. and the 901s. As you've probably already read, many people do this to their HT setups anyway. A more powerful amp should really help push the 901s.

Receiver L/R preout -- Bose active eq. -- Amp -- 901

I guess you already knew that. So, all you really need to do is add the other surround speakers for HT.
