I currently have a Pioneer VSX 74TXVi and a cable DVR box. I have not been able to run the video into the receiver using HDMI (copyright issues from what I've been told) and was curious if anyone has success using the HDMI and a TIVO series 3 HD box with this receiver? I'm going to upgrade to the TIVO 3 regardless, but should I sell my receiver (my co-worker would buy it) and get one that's compatible? Thanks in advance...any suggestions welcome
This problem comes up repeatedly. The problem I feel sure is that neither your Pioneer or cable box has repeater HDCP architecture. Cable and satellite boxes and DVRs are particularly notorious for this problem. They just want to build the devices cheap and say it is not their problem, people should just connect their devices direct to the TV and be happy.
This is the outfit that saddled us with this nonsense at the behest of the Unsatisfactory people who populate Hollywood.
Here is a link to a post I did previously on this issue.

If you do update your receiver it should solve the problem. Just make sure it is HDMI version 1.3, has repeater architecture and can decode Dolby True HD. Then you will be up to date for the next six months, if you are lucky.
