Pioneer VSX-74 Problem W/HD-DVD HDMI

I'm having a problem with a Pioneer VSX-74TXi receiver -- audio, but no picture through HDMI with Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player. I tried several different brands of HDMI cable and switched from the receiver's HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 and this made no difference. The various cables and the change in HDMI inputs all work with my HD Tivo.

Are there any solutions to this problem, other than sacrificing picture quality with HD-DVD and upconversion of SD DVDs and audio quality by using component video and optical audio out instead of HDMI? Would a Gefen or Monoprice HDMI switcher solve the problem?

Did you ever get an answer?

I am having a similar issue with the Toshiba HD-A30. I noticed that your post was over a year ago. Did you get this fixed?

Yours is the third problem of this type this morning. This problem surfaces continuously. I have done a lot of posts on this before. Please browse my posts to understand this better.

As regards, switchers I have found Gefen permanently behind the curve. Mine will not support my new Direct TV HD DVR.

This switcher likely will work, but you will have to switch video and audio separately.

This device was designed by one of those hired by the vile inhabitants of Hollywood to create this mess. He is now trying to make money out of sorting out the mess he created.
Below is the post I sent to the other member with the same issue.

Yours is the second post with this type of issue since Christmas. I bet this is a HDCP compliance issue. The Pioneer is not giving the Toshiba HD the right repeater handshakes. You might be lucky and solve it with HDMI 1,3 version cables from Blue Jeans.
Do this test. Connect the Toshiba HD directly to the TV via HDMI and see if it works. It likely will. If it does then your Pioneer is not sending the six digital keys to the Toshiba correctly or frequently enough. If there is no software up grade for your Pioneer that will correct this you will be SOL.
This whole issue is a mess and the Unsatisfactory people who inhabit Hollywood are responsible. Please see my previous posts about this. I bet we will have an avalanche of this in the near future.
