Pioneer vsx-522k issue

I have had this receiver for a few years now, bought it new. Searched for a similar issue and found a thread where it pops and cuts out intermittently but mine never pops, only cuts sound out and will randomly come back a few seconds or minutes later. Never had any issues until recently. Sound on any channel cuts out randomly and comes back. Tried the factory reset and didn’t help. Seems like once it is on for a while it will work better and not cut out sound. Not much of a guru when it comes to this but I really don’t want to buy a new receiver but I know the cost of repair may be just as much. I have grown an attachment to this one which may sound odd but I like it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Mine is a vsx-522. Not a 522k..I guess it autocorrected to that. Not sure if they are the same, just stating that.

I'd guess something along the lines of a bad solder joint or other type of connection that's loose to cause the intermittent results, but am no electronics tech myself. My last Pioneer avr didn't fare well but it was an hdmi board issue that later became full death. If you don't have the necessary skills to analyze/repair I'd think you're faced with a choice of professional analysis/repair or time to upgrade....and for something that retailed for $250 I'd think the repairs could easily approach it's value.

I was thinking a cold soldier myself or loose connection...I will pop the cover off and see if I can see anything that stands out.

Have you tried other inputs?

Does it happen only on HDMI inputs? How about on analog inputs?

Happens on any input. Even the radio tuner. I don’t use the HDMI inputs only rca and optical digital mostly.

These cheap AVRs are probably meant to last 2-4 YR depending on how much you use them. :D

Time for another one.
