Pioneer VSX-516 Receiver Review

When I bought my first receiver, budget meant the difference between analogue and digital. I was broke so I had to go analogue which meant my receiver was hopelessly outdated almost immediately. Now, budget is the difference between multiple zones and number and type of connections. Sure, amp quality and power handling is a factor as well, but for most of us, there isn’t a receiver out there that can’t push our 8-ohm speakers to ear bleeding levels. </FONT>

It's nice to see you guys finally reviewing some Pioneer units. It seems that they've slipped in popularity from their peak (as I remember it) in the 70s, yet they appear (from this review and the 816 review) that they still put out decent equipment.

Thats weird that you mentioned the unit turning itself on by itself, I have the 815K and one night around 3 am it turned itself on. Got the wife all freaked out and I had to go check the house to calm her down.

I own a VSX-815K and its never done that to me before. I havnt had mine for long though. 10 Months.

I wonder how many times these models have actually done this to people?
