hmmm...
If you're watching an HD station and a commercial
on the same channel comes on that "looks" like it's in SD, the commercial is actually still in HD, it's just been "up-converted" from SD...
Now on to the sound problem...
the HD show you're watching is most probably in
Dolby Digital 5.1 , while the commercial probably switches to
Dolby Digital 2.0...
My Pioneer receiver will switch between both streams, but there is a slight interruption as it switches between them...
Either:
- Your receiver has a problem switching between the two streams
- Your Hopper / Joey has it's Dolby Digital options set in way that doesn't allow the receiver to "decode" the switch
- or the Hopper / Joey is set to only send one type of digital stream...
On my Dish VIP222, the Dolby Digital options are found by:
- Pressing the "Menu" Button
- Pressing "System Setup"
- Pressing "Dolby Digital"
Your Hopper / Joey may differ...
The Options presented there are:
- Dolby Digital / PCM (My Selection)
- Dolby Digital only
- PCM only
- Line Mode (My Selection)
- RF Mode
If you can find the Dolby Digital options on your Hopper / Joey, experiment with the options there...
You may have to have the Hopper / Joey send out the just the
PCM stream, which should be converted by the Hopper / Joey, and not your Pioneer...
this may alleviate the switching problem...
Unfortunately, the broadcast stream won't be sent out in 5.1 anymore...
You may also want to try using the "Digital Optical Out" output jack on the Hopper / Joey (& an Optical Cable), run to the Pioneer, instead of using the HDMI cable to carry the sound stream to your Pioneer...
If you do that, you'll have the specify in the Pioneer Menu Options to use that type of audio on that particular input, instead of using the HDMI for sound on that input...
Hope this makes sense & helps...
