Pioneer VSX-1021-K Connection Issues

First post, hello all. My setup: Samsung PN58C590, Creative Fatality X-Fi Sound Blaster, Windows 7 PC, PS3, HD DVR, Pioneer VSX-1021-K, wifi, and iPhone 4. I've connected the sound card and the TV to the receiver via digital audio cables (TOSLINK) and everything else is HDMI. I cannot get sound except through the PC. Do I need to connect the receiver via HDMI also?

Connect all source components to the Pioneer receiver, then a video feed from the Pioneer to the TV.

I stopped in at my local Best Buy to look at the Pioneer 1021 for another room of mine and I was told that all the Pioneer 1021 were pulled from Best Buy inventory as for the reason they were all being to be shipped back to Pioneer and be fixed. I would send your unit back from where ever you got it. Hope you bought from a B&M!
