Pioneer VSX-1020k OSD problems

Apologies for the cross post, but I am stuck. I am using a Pioneer VSC-1020k and a 50” Panasonic plasma TV. I wanted to be able to watch TV without having the receiver turned on, so I connected the HDMI from my cable box directly to my TV. I then connected my TV back to the receiver using the outputs on the back of the TV. Now when the receiver is turned on, I can listen to TV audio through it.
I can’t figure out how to get the on-screen display to show up on the TV. This is not normally an issue, but I would like to be able to see album art while listening to my ipod through the receiver. I can’t figure out which connections to make to view the OSD on the TV while keeping everything else as I have it. Any suggestions?

Are you talking about the OSD for the reciever? If you are then you have to hook up a video cable from video out on the reciever to the video in on tv (both are yellow rca type connections). OSD will not work with hdmi on your model, hdmi OSD only works on 1120k and the elite receivers. Im not sure why Pioneer didnt make it standard on all receivers. I hope this is what you were asking

It is. Thanks. In order to view the OSD, it seems that I would have to switch the input to whichever TV input the RCAs were connected to, correct?

I would also like to be able to listen to the TV audio through the receiver only when I want to. As I understand it, the receiver does not allow TV pass through. If i route the audio from the cable box into the receiver (either by RCA or digital audio), would I be able to listen to TV volume through the receiver only when I want to, and through the TV the rest of the time?

Thanks again for your help.
