Pioneer VSX-1014TX Rec output problems

I am trying to get the output of my DVD player to go to the input of my VCR without physically unhooking the cables and bypassing my 1014. I was of the impression that whatever the selected video source was it would appear at the Rec outputs but this does not seem to be the case. The sources are of the same type all RCA analog inputs.

I was going to say make sure you have analog outputs from your DVD players going into your receiver and not just the digital/coax out puts.

Well I am not using any of the digital video functions. Its all analog.
