Pioneer SCS-12 Problem *Please Help*
I recently acquired a pair of Pioneer SCS-12 Speakers from my father.
I plugged them into a Technics SA-GX690's main left and right speaker outputs. (apparently this was quite a good amplifier when it was first released?)
I am amazed with the quality one of these speakers is capable of.
However, the other speaker seems to be broken. The overall output level is significantly lower (approximately a quarter from a by-the-ear guesstimate) than that of the other. This speaker also seems to have little to no bass response and thus sounds /very/ tinny.
I've checked all the basic things that I can think of. The amp requires 8-16 ohms for the outputs that I'm using and the speakers are rated at 8 ohms.
I've tried switching the speakers to the opposing set of outputs to no effect suggesting that it is actually a problem with the speaker and not the amp.
I've taken the speaker out of it's housing and there is no visible damage to the cone or the connections.
The only thing that I've noticed is that the speaker has no "give" when pressure is applied carefully to the cone as my other speakers do.
Anyway; any ideas as to what could be wrong / how I could fix it would be great.
Thanks,
-Nelson
EDIT:
I have just tested the resistance of the speaker with a multimeter and it reads a perfect 8 ohms, exactly as it should which seems to eliminate a short or other wiring problem.
