When I turn on the receiver, and go to watch Dish Network Satellite TV......

If I'm not on an HD Channel when I turn on the Receiver, it goes right to stereo mode.... and if I switch to a HD channel it doesn't change over to Dolby Digital format... It won't Auto Switch..... So sometimes I have to reboot the receiver... Pain in the tucous.

If I am on a HD channel when I fire up the receiver, then I have no problems with it Auto Switching at all.... I have the receiver set to Auto Surround mode.

Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong, or if anyone ran into this...?

Otherwise, I could program my Pronto 9600 to fire up the Dish to an HD channel everytime before the receiver fires up.... but that doesn't seem to solve the problem here...

Thanks

Warp, if you start with a stereo channel and then switch to one with DD, can you manually select DD and have it play correctly? I'm asking because I'm wondering if it's the Pioneer or the Dish receiver that is not switching correctly.

No.... I can't just hit the DD button on the receiver remote.

I'll double check when I get home, but if that were case, I wouldn't be asking for a fix, as I have to reboot the receiver to get it to straighten out its act.... :(

After changing to the HD channel on the Dish, then reboot the receiver it goes through handshake scenario and comes up with DD.

Maybe I have the setup in the HDMI setting wrong on the receiver for that particular piece of equipment... Not sure what it should be set too... PCM?

The only other thing I have that is HDMI is my DVD player. and that works just fine... figures out whats coming down the pipe just fine... I'll have to see what the DVD player is set too in the Pioneer HDMI menu, if its selectable at all or just HDMI.
