Pioneer receiver POWEROFF problem

Ok, I have about a 4 year old Pioneer VSX D710S 5.1 receiver. I've been very pleased with its performance but now I can't get it to power on. I press the power button, only for it to light up for a couple of seconds, and then POWEROFF blinks in the display for a couple of seconds, and the whole system shuts off. Once the thing finally turns on though, it's fine. It's almost as if it needs to warm up or something. The problem has been getting progressively worse, to the point where it powers down each time I turn it on saying POWEROFF.

Does anyone know how to correct this or what the problem is?

It could be the start up relay, have it checked before something else deteriorates further in it.

I take it this is something that I need to bring in to a shop or is it possible to repair myself?

If you have experience with electronics and the circuit diagram, by all means try it yourself or idealy, let Pioneer service do the job.
