 Hi All,

I can get 20-30% off on both Pioneer and Mitsubishi TVs (employee discounts).
So i was wondering which TV/Technology to buy for my Home Theater system that is in my budget of $2000. I am looking at a screen size of 37" to 55" as i will be viewing it from a distance of ard. 10ft in a family room with a lot natural light coming in.

Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance...

In a room that gets a lot of natural light, I would say go with a plasma. At a viewing distance of 10 feet, a 42" should suffice and a 50" will give a bit of a wow factor. In the realm of plasma, Pioneer is one of the best for the most part.

Several other things to maybe consider:

1) How often will you be using the television?
2) What will you be primarily watching (movies, cable, sat)?

Thanks for replying...i had nearly given up hope of getting a reply...

TV will be used atleast 12 hours a day with cartoons/DVDs taking atleast 8 hours and remaining going to satellite/ cable.
My family room measures 15' x 19' and it opens to the kitchen. The south wall of the family room has 2 sliding doors opening to the back yard. So their is no direct sunlight during the day. These doors are about 12 ft. away from the media niche whre TV will be placed. Media Niche itself measures 5'x2'.

Personally I wouldn't touch a Mitsubishi with a ten foot pole. I have seen far too many complaints on them. I had one in my home (big 65 inch HD set) for a whole week before the ever famous flashing green light began to appear and then the set would shut down. Turns out this happens to quite a few people.

As far as the type of technology, I would definitely go for an LCD. Especially when you have a lot of ambient light. Plasma sets are subject to burn in. I have seen some big complaints at at other sites concerning plasma burn in. Also, remember those safety screens on the front of many tv's produce so much glare that they are unwatchable when there is any other light in the room.

It seems people here don't have much experience with Mitsubishi TVs...I am thinking about going for DLP or RPLCD or LCD tecnology based TVs.

Can someone given specific make/model numbers along with their experiences for any of the above mentioned technologies?

Have had my Mitsubishi 60" 11 years, not one problem. Picture still looks great.

Mitsubishi WD-52628

Pioneer only does Plasma: PDP-5060HD

thats too long to be considering a plasma imo. you will have problems with it sooner rather than later from burn in.

if you must get plasma, it's a no brainer, pioneer make the best set on the market. mitsubishi aint in the same startosphere for picture quality in this display category.

I have a Mitsubishi 52" DLP 1080p. WD52628. The picture is great and have had no problems. DLP TVs are really bright...I think they would be best for a room with lots of light.

I think the first question should be what kind of tv are you wanting.... flat panel vs. dlp type vs. rptv

i've only had the rptv and I wouldn't have bought any other brand except mitsubishi and their 1080p dlp sets look amazing, now if you get into the flat panels their may be better options
