I have recently upgraded my loudspeakers to a set of Cantons M-60s with matching center. Initially was going to purchase the Denon 3805 however I am now leaning towards the Pioneer Elite VSX 53TX as it is THX certified and lower in cost but I have been more of a Denon loyalist in the past. Any comparisons or suggestions, comments as I seem to be having a real hgard time making a decision and I am far from the expert on this stuff.

Thanks,

Don't put a bunch of weight on the fact that the Pioneer is THX certified. It's mainly just a marketing tool. My Yamaha RX-V1400 is THX certified and it's even less money. I also have a THX DSP but I very rarely even mess with it. Just don't like the sound. This is different than the certification though.

THX was not even a factor in my decision to buy the Yamaha and I would have bought the 1400 with or without THX Certification.

I agree to some extent that being THX certified is somewhat of a marketing tool. However, I do not think that it is worthless. I am sure a system with all THX "approved" products will have more of an impact. Yes, the THX mode sounds different than other processing modes, it doesn't make it bad.

rgriffin, as an unbiased onlooker, you are very hypocritical in the way you"hype" your Pioneer. You started a long thread that critical of people who "hype" Yamaha. You can call it what you want, but you came off as sarcastic, about the whole thing. Now all you ever do is hype up your reciever as the best thing. It is nice you like your reciever, it is a nice machine, but you exhibit the same behavior you were critical of. You can go on and be a coward and say you weren't being critical if you want, just asking a question. You know and I as well many others know exactly where you were coming from. Why the fact that Yamaha is having a spike in popularity bothers you, no one will ever know. It is ridiculous, don't you know these popularity spikes are cyclical in nature. A few years back, Pioneer was the flavor of the month. Right now, Yamaha appears to be giving people all the quality of their competition and doing it cheaper when you compare it all as a whole. I own a Denon, and like it plenty, but I will hard pressed to get annoyed at others for liking Yamaha more. I have been shopping around, and right now, Yamaha is doing a lot of things right. Everyone has their preference for sound, and features, and Yamaha is winning the battle right now. This does not mean your Pioneer is a bad machine. If it bothers you so much that you don't have the most popular machine for the moment, you should have bought a Yamaha.
