Pioneer Elite VSX72 Sound Question

Thanks for the great forum. I just purchased a Pioneer VSX72. I have not configured the MCACC yet however, I believe I am having an issue with the unit.

I have a Klipsch SUB, Polk bookshelf speakers (4), Klipsch center connected to the unit. I also have a Satellite receiver, DVDR and Comcast 6412 connected to the unit via Component connections.

When listening to the satellite or DVD or Cable box, I hear something that sounds like a relay/click (same sound that is heard when you turn the unit on or off) and the sound changes. The bass seems to drop considerably when this click occurs. This happens at low volumes. Also, when the unit is turned on, I occasionally get a great sound. Other times, the unit's bass is low (without changing/touching anything).

Is this unit defective or do I need to spend 1-2 hours doing calibrations...?

I have the 54, and have never experienced anything like that, before or after running MCACC. If it is only in the LFE, it could be the receiver. Is it possible that the Sub is off?

First You have to configure the MCACC you will see big improvement. and after try to check all the connection you did. Now it is possible your Sub is not connecting corectly something is off. and if it will continue then you can go to Pioneer with a defective unit.

I just purchased the VSX74 and I also did the automatic MCACC with the mic. I was also wondering why I couldn't hear any bass. I found the my Subwoofer settings were really low at -9db. I had to manually go into the settings and change my sub. As far as the click, it might be the LFE but it only occurs when Dolby Digital or the THX Select 2 kicks in.

When setting up the 72txv, it kept putting my sub at 24 feet away from listening position....but it was only 17-18 ft away...It also kept telling me to turn down the subwoofer in the beginning,,,,I had to turn it down to 1/4 gain before it went on.,

finally after a couple tries, it read it correctly at 18 ft..

when everything was said and done, I just raised my gain a little because Io like bass..

Nagyde,

Let me see if I have this correct: You hear a click at low volumes & you lose bass???? If I'm reading this correctly it could be that your subwoofer is on "Auto" & you're hearing it click off at low volumes. Do you hear a click when you turn the volume up and the bass sounds better????

Also, MCACC had my sub at the right distance, but it did tell me to keep turning it down during the auto-calibration. I just nugded the gain on the sub up a little till it sounded better.
