Pioneer Elite Vsx-84txsi

I am looking to purchase a PIONEER ELITE VSX-84TXSI with a Pioneer 5070HD plasma... I was wondering what everybody thought of this receiver that bought one. With 140W per channel looks like it will have plenty of power. Is there a work around to correct the LFE problem or should I wait until Pioneer fixes this? Any thoughts / recommendations?

BTW VisualApex looks like they have the best price going for the TV from an authorized dealer.

Thanks in advance

Jason

Of course it powers four ohm speakers:confused: Go to the Stereophile Guide to Home Theater site where the reveiwer uses big Martin Logan speakers for the four mains and a ML center channel with no problems.

I went ahead and bought one a few days ago :D

today I read it got an honorable mention in AV Revolution for best products in 2006

I was holding out for HDMI 1.3 in a reciever, but I am not sure that stuff will make much of a difference and if it does it will be out of range for what I am willing to pay for the next year or so... :D

Are any of these Pioneer , Denon, or Yamaha receivers upgradable? The reason I am asking is I am considering this model also. I was also looking at the B and K 507. That model is upgradable. It costs twice as much but I guess it is cheaper in the long run. Right? Any comments!!

Upgradability tends to be a scam since most companies that offer it either don't do it for many months or cost a fortune to get it done. If you are thinking of HDMI and the new hi def codecs, the 507 wil almost certainly not support them. Other than Anthem, I know of no company that offers HDMI as an upgrade.

IMO, just buy what you think is the best out their for your money. These receivers are almost as bad as computers with the upgrades now days. In 5 years I am sure the VSX that I bought a few days ago will be like buying a Pentium 200 top of the line back in the day. :D

I don't care about HDMI switching. I run my dvd player directly to the plasma. My main concern is the sound quality. I want a receiver that will be comparable to my Musical Fidelity integrated amp (a3.2). I also don't know if there will be a difference in sound from a new receiver to my old Onkyo TXSR700 (about 5 years old). Thanks for any suggestions!!

As far as money is concerned, I don't care. I get in the same trouble whether I spend $10 or $3000!!!! :(

I have had mine for several weeks now and am very happy with it. The sound analyzer is great and very easy to override if you wish and the menus are pretty easy to wade through. It comes with two remotes and the small one is perfect for daily operation if you dont need the setup menus.

I moved up from an older Denon 3600 AV receiver and am very happy with the 84. I use the pre outs to go to a main amp for the fronts then the receiver runs the front and surrounds.

It is a VERY slick receiver and works as claimed. Pioneer also has pretty good tech support. I called in today with a question and was able to get the tech to replicate my setup in their test room and help me with a question I had. Very cool in my book !!

I've had mine since August and I love it. Lots of clean power, easy menus, great features. Hippo Audio (authorized dealer) has great prices!
