Pioneer Elite vs. Yamaha RX-V Series

Ok, my confusion has increased. Any opinions out there regarding the Elite VSX74TXVI versus the Yamaha RXV 2600 or 4600?

can't really comment on the 74 vs 2600, but

My decision came down to the previous generation vsx-54tx and the rxv-2500. Very close decision, but went with the Elite. I wanted the 56 for the firewire/i-link, but couldn't afford it. I liked the warmth of the mosfet ampification on the Elites, and also that bi-amp instructions are included in the manual. No problems with bi-amping my MA 700 gold. I also liked the elite remote. In the 74, they have switched to a bi-polar amp section, and changed the remote. Don't know if you can still bi-amp. 74 does have firewire.

Yamaha RX-V2600

The new Yamaha RX-V2600 offers video upscalling from and deinterlacing for conversion of 480i or 480P to 720P or 1080i over the HDMI connection. I am not aware of any other receiver that offers this feature.

If you HDTV has a good scaller or if you already have a nice upconversion DVD player then this is probably a non-issue.

Keep in mind that most plasma and LCD displays have a native resolution that is not exactly 1080 or 720, so they're going to be scaling the incoming video signal anyway. Even if the scaler in the 2600 is really good, having the signal scaled twice can't be good for it. If I had a display like that I'd let the display handle all the scaling duties and have the 2600 pass the signal through in its original format.

If you have a DLP or LCOS or whatever that is natively 1080 or 720 then this is a potentially cool feature.
