A friend of mine who used to own a HiFi shop has 2 brand new in box 7 channel AV receivers, a Sherwood Newcastle R-972 and a Pioneer Elite SC-05. I am setting up a small den HT and don't need a current more up to date receiver like the one i have in my main HT. He said i could have either one for $200. You don't hear to much about Sherwood Newcastle AV receivers, but from the reviews of have read, it is pretty highly regarded and well built, just don't know much about them. The Pioneer has the Class D ICE amps, and just don't know how it would compare to the AB amps in the Sherwood. They are both from 2008-09. I am stuck, help me choose one please. Thanks.

I'd take the Sherwood just because it has Trinnov room eq (the only receiver to have such)....but I think I have read of some bugs/reliability issues with them, might want to do some reading in various fora. I doubt there's any audible difference just because of different amp topology, tho.
